HAAS Alert protects first responders and roadway workers who risk their lives every day to serve their communities. Collisions account for many of the injuries and deaths in these professions. Each month, we publish a roundup of struck-by incidents to highlight the dangers responders face and to call for stronger safety measures.

Earlier this week, West County EMS and Fire Protection District in Missouri announced their Safety Cloud deployment to the public via Facebook post.
Williamson County Fire-Rescue’s Safety Cloud deployment earned local coverage from Nashville Tennessee's WKRN News 2, appearing in both an on-air spotlight and article.
Hartford Fire & Rescue (WI) recently reshared our latest department spotlight video on Facebook. They noted that whether it’s "rain, sleet, or snow," tools like HAAS Alert are essential for keeping their responders and community protected.
HAAS Alert was featured in a recent Highways News article following the Transport Technology Forum (TTF) Annual Conference in Leicestershire, UK, where we showcased the growing impact of Safety Cloud across Europe.

Earlier this week, AutoTechInsight highlighted our involvement in the Road Works Warning II project. This joint implementation project in Scandinavia aims to standardize real-time digital alerts for roadworks across the region.
Our partners at Newcom, the systems integrators and solution providers behind the Massachusetts State Police statewide digital alerting initiative, published a piece this week as the project enters Phase II. As Lieutenant Sean Reardon noted: "The Troopers who did not have it in their vehicle and then had it installed... are telling us that they are seeing a noticeable difference in people getting out of their way when they respond to a call."

Collisions
A Farmington Police Department (MN) officer responding to a domestic call Monday night collided with a civilian vehicle at an intersection. The 72-year-old civilian driver sustained life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized. The officer was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and is reportedly doing well.
A Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office (MN) deputy responding to a pursuit with lights and sirens activated collided with a civilian vehicle Tuesday night. The 51-year-old civilian driver was killed, while a passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. The deputy and a young child were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A Barnstable Police Department (MA) cruiser and two civilian vehicles were involved in a collision at an intersection late last week. Three individuals were hospitalized, briefly placing a local hospital on trauma alert, while two others declined treatment. The crash is currently under investigation by a regional reconstruction team.
A Semmes Police Department (AL) officer and a Toyota Tacoma collided head-on early Wednesday morning. The 33-year-old civilian driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was hospitalized with severe leg injuries, and the crash is currently under investigation by ALEA.
A suspected drunk driver struck the rear of a Byron Township Fire Department (MI) truck Saturday night during snowy conditions. The 26-year-old driver and another motorist were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. No first responders were hurt, as the fire truck’s positioning successfully shielded crews working an earlier accident.
A San Antonio (TX) tow truck driver was critically injured in a hit-and-run on February 16 while assisting a vehicle. The 24-year-old victim suffered catastrophic injuries. San Antonio Police are currently searching for the driver of a light-colored sedan that fled the scene.
An FDNY (NY) firetruck traveling with lights and sirens active was involved in a four-vehicle chain-reaction crash Tuesday evening. A 78-year-old passenger in a transit van was killed, while 11 others were hospitalized in stable condition.
A speeding sedan struck a parked Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (TN) SUV and a Rutherford County Fire Rescue engine while crews were managing an earlier rollover. The two occupants of the sedan were transported to a medical center with significant injuries, while no first responders were hurt in the collision.
A DeKalb County Police Department (GA) cruiser and a tractor-trailer collided at an intersection early Thursday morning. The officer was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, while the truck driver was reportedly unhurt.
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (NC) cruiser overturned during a collision with another vehicle while the officer was responding to an emergency call. Both the officer and the other driver were treated for non-life-threatening injuries following the crash.
A vehicle lost control during a pursuit and struck a Washington State Patrol (WA) cruiser that was stopped on the side of the freeway with its emergency lights activated. The trooper was hospitalized with minor injuries and has since been released, while two others were treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious.

A Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office (TX) fire truck and a tractor-trailer collided at an intersection, causing the semi-truck to strike a minivan and a Harris County Sheriff’s Office cruiser stopped nearby. A firefighter and a deputy were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An SUV struck a parked Piqua Police Department (OH) cruiser while officers were on the scene of an earlier crash, sending the cruiser into the back of a parked fire truck. The officer was not in the vehicle at the time and no first responders were injured.
A driver was arrested after running a red light and striking a Phoenix Fire Department (AZ) truck at an intersection. No injuries were reported in the collision, and the driver was charged with DUI and drug possession after showing signs of impairment at the scene.
Four Illinois State Police (IL) cruisers were struck within a twelve-hour window on Monday. In the first two incidents, cruisers were sideswiped or struck by secondary collisions while responding to previous scenes; no injuries were reported, and both drivers were cited. In the third incident, a tractor-trailer rear-ended a parked cruiser, hospitalizing a trooper and three others with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The fourth collision involved a sedan rear-ending a cruiser assisting a motorist, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries for the trooper.
A Michigan State Police (MI) cruiser was struck by a vehicle while parked on an off-ramp at the scene of an earlier crash. The impact occurred on the driver’s side rear of the squad car, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Two New York State Police (NY) troopers were conducting a roadside traffic stop when a vehicle rear-ended their cruiser. The impact pushed the patrol car into the stopped civilian vehicle, striking one of the troopers. The trooper was transported to a local medical center with minor injuries and later released.
A vehicle was struck by another car and spun out of control, colliding with a Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FL) truck that was attempting to make a turn. The three firefighters on the truck were unhurt but three adults from the other vehicles were hospitalized.
A Byron Township Fire Department (MI) truck was struck by a vehicle while crews were working at the scene of a car fire on the M-6 exit ramp. This marks the second time in a month a department vehicle has been hit; the department’s dedicated blocking apparatus was unavailable for this scene as it remains out of service from a previous collision in February.
A brand new Urbana Fire Division (OH) fire engine was involved in a collision during a test drive Tuesday afternoon in Logan County. A civilian vehicle failed to yield from a stop sign and pulled into an intersection, striking the driver’s side of the 2026 custom fire engine.
A regional jet operating as Air Canada Express Flight 8646 collided with a Port Authority (NY/NJ) fire truck on a runway at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night. The truck had been cleared to cross the runway to respond to a separate aircraft emergency (a reported odor on a United Airlines flight) when the landing jet struck it at approximately 100 mph. Tragically, the plane’s cockpit was destroyed, killing both pilots.
Three Chicago Police Department (IL) officers were hospitalized Wednesday evening following a collision in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. A CPD squad car collided with an SUV resulting in all three officers being transported to local hospitals for evaluation.
A Wilkes-Barre Police Department (PA) cruiser and a van carrying nine children collided Thursday morning at an intersection in the city. The van, belonging to the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center, was occupied by one adult driver and the group of children at the time of the crash. Fortunately, authorities reported that no serious injuries were sustained in the incident, though the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
A Goodlettsville Police Department (TN) cruiser was involved in an early-morning crash Monday near a local on-ramp. Images from the scene showed the patrol car with significant front-end damage, requiring it to be towed from the roadway. The incident caused traffic delays for several hours, and the cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
A Savannah Police Department (GA) officer was involved in a collision Monday night while responding to a call with lights and sirens activated. The patrol vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle at an intersection near a local shopping center. Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
