HAAS Alert protects first responders and roadway workers who risk their lives every day to serve their communities. Collisions account for many of the injuries and deaths in these professions. Each month, we publish a roundup of struck-by incidents to highlight the dangers responders face and to call for stronger safety measures.
News We’re Tracking:
Williamson Fire/Rescue in Franklin, Tennessee shared a wonderful self-produced video on Facebook demonstrating Safety Cloud following their official go-live late last month.
Ahead of the upcoming ITS America Conference and Expo in Detroit, ITS America President and CEO Laura Chace highlighted HAAS Alert in an interview with TrafficTechnologyToday, while pointing to our partnership with Stellantis as a prime example of how connected data is already flowing into production vehicles. She also noted that ITSA hopes there will be a "standardized environment to allow that information to come into all vehicles eventually — to give alerts and warnings to all drivers.”
The launch of our Safety Cloud for Android Automotive solution received industry coverage earlier this week. Both AutoTechInsight and the National Law Review published pieces on the release, highlighting how the application helps automakers easily deliver connected safety features to drivers.
HAAS Alert was mentioned in an article by ERTICO about the first confirmed exhibitors for the ITS World Congress 2027 in Birmingham, England.
Our new partnership with SELECTRIC also received international media coverage this week. The German publication Pressebox wrote about the announcement, highlighting how the collaboration will bring Safety Cloud to emergency fleets across Germany.

Collisions:
Two Philadelphia (PA) police officers and a civilian driver were hospitalized last week after a marked squad car and a civilian vehicle collided. The impact caused the civilian vehicle to flip onto its side, requiring extraction equipment to free the driver.
A Texas Department of Public Safety (TX) trooper suffered serious leg injuries and a pickup truck driver was killed in a head-on collision near Alpine. The crash occurred when the pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and struck the trooper's patrol SUV. The trooper was airlifted for multiple surgeries, while his K-9 partner riding in the vehicle escaped major injury.
A 23-year-old motorist was tragically killed in an early morning hit-and-run collision in Lansing (IL) while attempting to change a tire on the shoulder. The striking vehicle fled the scene, and state police are currently searching for witnesses or dashcam footage of the incident.
Two Florida Highway Patrol (FL) troopers suffered serious injuries after a Cadillac SUV veered onto the emergency shoulder and struck their vehicles. One trooper was inside a parked squad car and the other was standing outside a truck addressing a disabled motorcycle trailer when the SUV struck the rear of the cruiser, pushing it forward. The 28-year-old striking driver, who was operating the vehicle with a suspended license, was hospitalized with minor injuries and faces pending charges.
Three Lawrence (KS) police officers narrowly escaped injury when a Jeep Wrangler struck a parked patrol car that was blocking traffic with its emergency lights activated. The officers were outside directing motorists away from a separate semi-truck collision when the 20-year-old driver crashed into the cruiser.
A Chicago (IL) Fire Department truck assisting with a previous incident was struck in the early-morning last weekend. A sedan hit the front of the parked fire apparatus before colliding with a second vehicle, resulting in one person being hospitalized.
An Appleton (WI) tow truck left the roadway on Friday morning, causing a sand-filled dump truck it was towing to detach and roll over. The detached truck struck a stationary vehicle, tragically killing the driver.

The impact caused the tow truck to veer into oncoming traffic where it collided with a pickup truck and a sedan, tragically killing the 63-year-old female driver of the sedan and injuring the tow truck driver.
A parked Lake Zurich (IL) police squad car was struck by a passing vehicle last Friday night while conducting a traffic stop with its emergency lights activated. The officer was safely outside the vehicle and escaped injury, while the striking driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and violating Scott's Law.
A Columbus (OH) Division of Fire ambulance driver was cited after running a red light with emergency lights activated but no sirens, striking a Mazda. The crash resulted in stable-condition injuries to four people, including two firefighters, the patient being transported, and the 70-year-old female driver of the Mazda.
A driver was issued three citations after running a red light and striking a Lake Villa (IL) Fire Protection District ambulance that was traveling through an intersection with emergency lights and sirens activated. The collision, which also involved a second SUV, resulted in minor, non-life-threatening injuries to six people, including three paramedics, the patient being transported, and both SUV drivers.
A crash involving a West Bridgewater (MA) fire truck and another vehicle overnight near Boston is under investigation. The collision caused significant rear-end damage to the fire truck and heavy front-end damage to the other vehicle, initially blocking two lanes of traffic.
A Galveston (TX) fire truck collided with a midsize SUV on Wednesday morning at a local intersection. The driver of the SUV, which was attempting a left turn when it struck the westbound fire apparatus, declined medical treatment at the scene, and no injuries were reported.
