Introducing Speed Reductions and Per-Incident Alert Counts

We’re excited to announce two new enhancements now available to Safety Cloud users: a Safety Impact section in the Monthly Report, and a per-incident Drivers Alerted count in the Incidents or Events module. Together, these new features give agencies a quantified measure of how digital alerts are reaching drivers and what is happening when drivers receive these digital alerts.

Safety Impact: Driver Speed Reduction in the Monthly Report

Every agency and fleet on Safety Cloud receives a Monthly Report with a curated set of key safety figures from the previous month, including an estimate of how many drivers were alerted. Now, leveraging our direct connectivity with vehicles on the road, we can provide an even deeper look into the impact of digital alerting on driver behavior.

Beginning April 2026, your Safety Cloud Monthly Report features an expanded Safety Impact section, which builds upon the total number of drivers alerted with a new safety metric we're introducing: Driver Speed Reduction. This set of measurements provides an average of how much drivers reduced their speed in the moments after being alerted through Safety Cloud. This includes three figures: the average reduction number for all Safety Cloud customers, the reduction we’ve measured in your state/province/territory, and the average reduction we’ve measured for organizations similar to yours.

These metrics were built to answer a question that fire chiefs, public works directors, and fleet safety officers have been asking us directly: when our alerts go out, what are motorists actually doing? While the Drivers Alerted figure estimates the reach of Safety Cloud’s digital alerts, these new Driver Speed Reduction numbers measure driver response. According to the Transport Research Laboratory, reducing the average speed by 1 mph is associated with a 5% reduction in crashes. HAAS Alert’s safety goal is to use digital alerting to provide drivers with better situational awareness, where most often we want the result to be slower, more attentive vehicles approaching responders working in or near traffic.

Drivers Alerted, Now Per-Incident

The second enhancement we’ve introduced is in the Incidents (or Events) module, where users review their alerting history scene by scene. Public safety agencies see this view labeled as Incidents, while construction, towing, utility, and DOT fleets see it as Events, but the functionality is the same. Each entry in this module records the location, start, end, and duration of the event. Historically, we haven’t shared any alerting calculations in this view: they were only available in aggregate, summarized across the entire fleet in the Monthly Report.

Now, we’re providing you with more granular information about each event by adding a Drivers Alerted number, which is an estimated number of drivers who received an alert for this event across all connected platforms, including in-vehicle systems and navigation apps. For short-duration events or those with limited exposure to traffic (e.g., in a residential area), you may see a value of “<10”, which simply indicates that we did not have enough information to provide you with a more specific figure.

The benefits of this new layer of data are practical and instantaneous. After an emergency response has ended, a chief can immediately see our system’s estimate of how many motorists were reached through our digital alerting partners. A traffic incident management coordinator reviewing a long-duration scene can see how the alerting volume scaled with the response. A municipal fleet reporting to a city council can point to the specific incident and the specific number of drivers reached.

This is what we mean by direct measurement of safety impact. Every customer on Safety Cloud, regardless of size or organization type, now has per-incident visibility into the reach of their digital alerts.

Available Now

Both of these enhancements are live for all Safety Cloud agencies. The new Safety Impact section will appear in this month's Monthly Report, delivered via email and accessible in the Dashboard. Per-incident Drivers Alerted counts are available now in the Events tab.
